Create a Project

After clicking the “Plume.exe” file, select “Isochron dating” on the welcome screen to open the software’s initial dialog box. In the initial configuration box, you need to sequentially set the following parameters:

  • Workspace (Path to save processed data)
  • Folder (Path of the raw data)
  • Instrument Type
  • File Type (Raw data format)
  • Sample List (Raw data list/Optional)
  • Approach (Analysis method template)

Note: the software may have bugs. Please restart the software multiple times during the initial setup of the analysis method.

Fig. 3.1 Data import

Workspace (Path to save processed data)

This is used to store all data output by the “Plume” software, including output reports and saved data during processing.

Folder (Path of the raw data)

The path to the folder where the data to be processed.

Instrument Type

Select the type of instrument that generated the raw data. The instrument type helps the software locate the corresponding sample names and the positions of the data in “rows” and “columns”.

File Type (Raw data format)

If there are multiple document formats supported by the selected instrument type in the folder containing the raw data, you can choose the file format for the raw data. For example, the raw data files exported by a Neoma instrument could be in “csv” or “xml” format.

Sample List (Raw data list/Optional)

“Plume” reads all data in the specified file format in the “Folder (Raw Data Storage Path),” so it can read data without relying on the “Sample List.” If these files contain sample names, they can be automatically retrieved after reading the files. If the files do not contain sample names or if you wish to additionally designate sample names, you need to prepare a sample list (in Excel format). The sample list must be recorded in the specified format, as shown in Figure 3.3. “Plume” will rely on the filenames in the “Folder” to find the corresponding sample names in the “Sample List.”

“Set as default”

Set the above parameters as default values.

After setting the “Workspace”, “Folder”, “Instrument Type”, and “File Type”, you can select a prepared analysis method template in the “Approach” and then click “OK” to start the data processing. Users can also click “Preview ” in the “Approach” to view or modify the analysis method template.

If there is no suitable analysis method template, you can click “/New” to create a new analysis method template (see the next section).

Users can click “Load Session” to read previously saved session data.
